Brixham Pirate Festival 2025
The Smugglers: Rum, Riffs & Remarkable Moments
Ahoy, me hearties! What a Bank Holiday weekend! The Brixham Pirate Festival 2025, held from Friday 2nd to Monday 5th May, turned our charming harbour town into a scene straight from the high seas. The Smugglers Hotel, Restaurant & Bar was right at the heart of the action.
Just a short stroll from the cannon smoke and harbour skirmishes, we welcomed pirates, families and festival-goers all weekend long with cosy rooms, hearty food, local ales and live music that kept spirits high from dawn till dusk.
The Streets Came Alive with Pirate Spirit
From Saturday morning, the streets were packed. Everywhere you looked were incredible pirate outfits, complete with feathered hats, eye patches, swords and swagger. There were pirates parading, in stocks, chained gangs marching through town and the thunder of cannons as the Golden Hind skirmish exploded into life.
Our grandson got right into the spirit. We kitted him out with pirate gear from one of the local shops. In a true act of festival kindness, a lovely lady gifted him a handmade skull and crossbones bracelet. It was a small moment that captured the heart of what this festival is all about, fun, community and connection.
Burgers, Barrels & Buccaneer Cheer
Our Burger & Barrel offer was a hit throughout the festival. A proper pirate’s feast of a juicy burger with a pint of local ale or cider. Whether you were refuelling after a cannon battle or simply soaking up the atmosphere, our guests loved the chance to tuck into good food in the warm, friendly buzz of our bar and restaurant.
Our dog-friendly front bar also meant that even four-legged first mates were welcome to join the fun.
A Weekend of Live Music & Festival Vibes
The Smugglers pulsed with music all weekend, with something for every kind of pirate:
- Friday night kicked off in style with Nick the Fish and John the Fiddle. They had the bar jumping with sea shanties, toe-tapping tunes and a full crowd of singing sailors.
- Sunday afternoon brought a more mellow mood with our Sunday Sounds Session. Featuring the fantastic Paul Fellows and his soulful, easygoing set.
- Then as the sun dipped over Brixham on Sunday evening, Riviera Gallon brought the house down with a high-energy sunset session. It filled the bar with foot-stomping tunes and maritime mischief. The pub rang with voices, laughter and raised tankards — a true festival highlight.
